Denver Republican Caucus Information

On March 16, 2010, Colorado will hold its caucuses, the first step in the process of selecting candidates for state and national office, and for writing the party platform for the upcoming elections.

In 2008, caucus turnout was higher than at any time in recent memory, and we expect 2010 participation to be higher still.

At the caucuses, we will:

  • Conduct the Gubernatorial and US Senatorial Preference Poll These polls are non-binding, but will serve as a guide of party sentiment to the delegates heading into County and State Assemblies
  • Elect Two (2) Precinct Committeepersons These committeepersons will serve as delegate to the County Central Committee, and will be the key point of contact between the party and voters in a precinct. They are, collectively, the Most Powerful Office in the World, and will help determine the shape of the party for the next two years. (The links do not represent an official Party endorsement of any organization or movement, but should serve as motivation to understand just how important the caucus process is in Colorado, and how influential you can become by participating.
  • Select Delegates to the County, State House, and State Senate Assemblies These delegates will designate candidates to the State House and State Senate ballots, and will elect delegates to the State Convention in May. They will not directly nominate US Senate and Colorado Governor candidates, but they will select those who do.
  • Prepare a list of Election Judges Voting integrity is critical to the election process. Volunteering to serve as an Election Judge is the best way to ensure that the votes are cast fairly and in accordance with established election law.
The caucus process is where party members can exercise the greatest influence over the selection of our candidates for the fall elections. In order for you to get the most out of the caucus process, we have arranged a number of caucus trainings. We also have Caucuses are organized by State House District. If you are unsure of what State House District you live in, you can look it up on the Secretary of State's Website, by entering your name, zip code, and birthdate. Look for item #12 (State House) on the key at the bottom of the results page.
